There is a plethora of scientific evidence to indicate that lifestyle habits affect brain function. Chronic medical conditions that are not well-managed negatively impact neurocognitive functioning. For example, untreated high blood pressure is a common risk factor for vascular disease and/or vascular dementia. However, chronic medical conditions that are well-managed help prevent the adverse effects that these chronic medical conditions may have on brain function. In addition, physical exercise, good sleep hygiene, activities that reduce stress, and healthy eating habits have been noted to have beneficial effects on brain health.
Please see the “Assessment Information” link for a list of factors that affect neurocognitive functioning.
